Silk
fibre, which is obtained from the cocoon of the
silk worms, is such a versatile fibre that it
lends itself to be made into a vast range of silk
fabrics to meet various end-uses. Silk can have
either a smooth or a nubby finish. It can be supple
and drapeable, as well as stiff and bouffant.
It can be heavy and thick, or fine, thin and transparent.
In general, almost all the silks are strong, resilient
and elastic; they hold their shape and resist
wrinkling, they do not pill or soil easily. With
such properties, there is little doubt why silk
is considered the most luxurious of all the fibres.
